Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy can be effective in treating both acute (new or recent) and chronic (long established) problems. Our Physiotherapists are chartered degree educated Health Professionals who can diagnose the painful or limiting condition you have, then help repair damage, accelerate the healing process, reduce pain and stiffness and prevent recurrence.
We can help you restore, maintain and promote health and function through very detailed physical examination, diagnosis, manual therapy, physical intervention, rehabilitation, prognosis, patient education, disease prevention and health promotion.
Your first appointment will last 45 minutes. During this time YOUR physiotherapist will listen carefully and take note of your account of the injury or painful complaint. A note of your medical history and any other complaints that may be relevant to the affected area will also be made. From here on your Physio will examine the area of concern, and any areas that may be linked to your problem. They will then suggest a treatment programme which can be started within the consultation on day one as well as prescribing a home exercise programme.
You will receive your home exercise programme by email or you can choose to opt in to create an account with our exercise App where the exercises will be uploaded.
Please wear appropriate clothing for your appointment, the Physiotherapist will be required to access the painful area for assessment and treatment purposes. We also require a note of any medication you may be on.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is one of the many skills used within physiotherapy for the management of pain and inflammation and as a means of stimulating the body’s own healing chemicals to aid recovery and enhance rehabilitation.
Acupuncture within physiotherapy is implemented in accordance with clinical and research evidence.
The body has an innate ability to self-repair and the use of Acupuncture enhances these natural self-repair mechanisms to enhance recovery and improve repair timeframes, supporting the body back to optimal health. Acupuncture also works in conjunction with other physiotherapy modalities, such as exercise and conditioning.
There is substantial evidence that Acupuncture can significantly reduce pain in many musculoskeletal conditions- the list includes (but is not limited to) Headaches and migraines, neck pain, low back pain, TMJ pain, knee shoulder and ankle pain.
Western medical acupuncture has been derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine [TCM]. In Traditional Chinese Acupuncture it is believed that the needles stimulate the flow of energy, known as Qi (chee) which circulates in pathways (meridians) within the body.
Through anatomical dissection we have discovered that the tissue called ‘fascia’ lie in trains that we can body map to match very closely with the ancient Chinese energy channels (meridians). Fascial tissue is connective tissue that attaches, wraps, and/or separates the deep structures of the body. In the West, there is belief that the insertion of the Acupuncture needle may stimulate the nerve supply of the fascial tissue which may be responsible for reducing pain.
Acupuncture is also proven to stimulate our Parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for reducing stress, enhancing sleep, reducing blood pressure and decreasing heart rate. Therefore most people tend to find improved wellbeing as a result of acupuncture.
The Chartered Physiotherapists who practice Acupuncture at Revive Physiotherapy and wellbeing are fully qualified Acupuncturists.
Physical Rehabilitation
What does 1-1 rehabilitation involve?
Personalised rehabilitation is a key part of a Sports Therapist’s and Physiotherapist's role. Often some form of strengthening or stretching must be carried out in order to help return an individual to full health. We will guide you through your rehabilitation with a supervised exercise programme for you to carry out with us at the clinic, on a one-to-one basis. This will be a progressive programme which will be adapted as you start to respond to the rehabilitation over time. You will also be prescribed a home exercise programme to accelerate your recovery.
If required, the first part of a rehabilitation process is to address the pain, whether this is of a recent onset, or a longer term discomfort. Your Physiotherapist and Sports Therapist will guide you through the rehabilitation process and advise on appropriate exercises to do at each stage of your recovery, which will usually be modified once your pain or discomfort is starting to improve.
