Physiotherapy can be effective in treating both acute (new or recent) and chronic (long established) problems. Our Physiotherapists are chartered degree educated Health Professionals who can diagnose the painful or limiting condition you have, then help repair damage, accelerate the healing process, reduce pain and stiffness and prevent recurrence.

We can help you restore, maintain and promote health and function through very detailed physical examination, diagnosis, manual therapy, physical intervention, rehabilitation, prognosis, patient education, disease prevention and health promotion.

Your first appointment will last 45 minutes. During this time YOUR physiotherapist will listen carefully and take note of your account of the injury or painful complaint. A note of your medical history and any other complaints that may be relevant to the affected area will also be made. From here on your Physio will examine the area of concern, and any areas that may be linked to your problem. They will then suggest a treatment programme which can be started within the consultation on day one as well as prescribing a home exercise programme.
You will receive your home exercise programme by email or you can choose to opt in to create an account with our exercise App where the exercises will be uploaded.

Please wear appropriate clothing for your appointment, the Physiotherapist will be required to access the painful area for assessment and treatment purposes. We also require a note of any medication you may be on.

Acupuncture is one of the many skills used within physiotherapy for the management of pain and inflammation and as a means of stimulating the body’s own healing chemicals to aid recovery and enhance rehabilitation.
Acupuncture within physiotherapy is implemented in accordance with clinical and research evidence.

The body has an innate ability to self-repair and the use of Acupuncture enhances these natural self-repair mechanisms to enhance recovery and improve repair timeframes, supporting the body back to optimal health. Acupuncture also works in conjunction with other physiotherapy modalities, such as exercise and conditioning.

There is substantial evidence that Acupuncture can significantly reduce pain in many musculoskeletal conditions- the list includes (but is not limited to) Headaches and migraines, neck pain, low back pain, TMJ pain, knee shoulder and ankle pain.

Western medical acupuncture has been derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine [TCM]. In Traditional Chinese Acupuncture it is believed that the needles stimulate the flow of energy, known as Qi (chee) which circulates in pathways (meridians) within the body.

Through anatomical dissection we have discovered that the tissue called ‘fascia’ lie in trains that we can body map to match very closely with the ancient Chinese energy channels (meridians). Fascial tissue is connective tissue that attaches, wraps, and/or separates the deep structures of the body. In the West, there is belief that the insertion of the Acupuncture needle may stimulate the nerve supply of the fascial tissue which may be responsible for reducing pain.

Acupuncture is also proven to stimulate our Parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for reducing stress, enhancing sleep, reducing blood pressure and decreasing heart rate. Therefore most people tend to find improved wellbeing as a result of acupuncture.

The Chartered Physiotherapists who practice Acupuncture at Revive Physiotherapy and wellbeing are fully qualified Acupuncturists.

And while it’s true that professional sportspeople love it – during the London 2012 Olympics, sports massage accounted for 36 per cent of treatment provided to athletes, second only to physiotherapy – the rest of us can benefit from it too.

Taking care of your body might help you reach optimal performance even if your ‘high performance sport’ is the occupation or desk job you choose to do. So soft tissue work isn’t just for Olympic athletes.

Massage techniques are known officially as effleurage (long strokes) and petrissage (kneading), however a sports massage will bear little or no resemblance to the ubiquitous “relaxing” massage you may have had in a hotel spa or from a beautician.

It will manipulate your tissue, warm it up and make it more pliable but also bring lovely, fresh, oxygenated blood to the muscles by increasing its flow.

It can also work the fascia (a fine sheath that covers the entire muscular system) which if tight, can cause all sorts of unpleasant aches and pains.

Sports massage is thought to improve recovery from training and help with lymphatic drainage that means toxins (such as lactic acid, which builds up after heavy training, giving you cramp) can leave the body quicker.

This becomes even more important as you get older. The body changes with age, not just externally but internally too: mobility reduces; muscle mass reduces; and recovery naturally slows down.

All our Sports Massage within the clinic is delivered by our fully qualified team of Chartered Physiotherapists, Sports Therapists or Advanced Clinical Massage therapists. Our clients absolutely love this because the extensive knowledge of the body and the musculoskeletal system that the therapists have add an additional dimension to your massage. Our sports massages are so popular that the appointments book up really quickly- so please do not delay in giving your body this extra special treatment to benefit from this service

However, we do recommend if you have a new injury that you book in for a Physiotherapy Assessment or a Sports Therapy Assessment instead of a Sports Massage… It may be likely that your problem would benefit more from Physiotherapy treatment or Sports Therapy treatment initially than Sports Massage. Sports Massage techniques are regularly used by Physiotherapists and Sports Therapists in addition to other treatments. You can discuss with your therapist if they feel an individual Sports Massage session is recommended over a combined approach including Physiotherapy/Sports Therapy treatment. Your Clinician will help you make an informed decision.

What does 1-1 rehabilitation involve?
Personalised rehabilitation is a key part of a Sports Therapist’s and Physiotherapist's role. Often some form of strengthening or stretching must be carried out in order to help return an individual to full health. We will guide you through your rehabilitation with a supervised exercise programme for you to carry out with us at the clinic, on a one-to-one basis. This will be a progressive programme which will be adapted as you start to respond to the rehabilitation over time. You will also be prescribed a home exercise programme to accelerate your recovery.

If required, the first part of a rehabilitation process is to address the pain, whether this is of a recent onset, or a longer term discomfort. Your Physiotherapist and Sports Therapist will guide you through the rehabilitation process and advise on appropriate exercises to do at each stage of your recovery, which will usually be modified once your pain or discomfort is starting to improve.

Pilates helps enable your muscles to do the job they were designed to do; not the job they’ve learned to do. It is sometimes mistaken for a gentle exercise class or just stretching but it actually uses a combination of strengthening (focusing on core), low impact, achievable but precise exercises, to create an intense and highly beneficial workout. These help to strengthen, rebalance, realign, lengthen and relax the body.
We mainly offer Physio Led, or APPI (Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute) classes and you can choose to attend a Group class or opt for a Private 1:1 or 1:2 class.
One to One or Group Classes
Why are Physio Led Pilates different other Pilates Classes? As the name suggests, the classes are designed by Physiotherapists so they take into consideration a 3 level approach to Pilates so the body can strengthen and be challenged over time. You will receive a full professional assessment prior to joining the class so all the exercises are carefully selected to match your needs and abilities, throughout the class we will then be able to assist you with your progression. The instructor is qualified to discuss any health issues you might have during/after exercise and provide you with advice how to cope with them. If you are currently injured, struggle with chronic pain or have a long term health problem, then we recommend this is the class for you. All the exercise programs are backed with research and broken down to a comprehensive level system to make sure you are always working within your limits. With our training we can make sure that the exercises are done with precision to allow your body to re-learn the correct movement patterns necessary for reducing your pains and aches, to help your body to be more efficient in its posture and to reach your goals. Whilst being great as a complimentary programme to a cardiovascular exercise plan, Pilates is also effective on its own and is often prescribed as a rehabilitative class for injured or recovering clients.

What conditions can a Sports Therapist help with?
Sports therapists see patients with a range of health conditions and injuries on a daily basis, however this is not limited to just sports injuries.
After a diagnosis has been made, generally treatment begins immediately, during your initial visit. There are a number of techniques that are used in daily practice by sports therapists.
